Copper Cable: There are many types of copper cable used for Ethernet cabling within a business. One of the most common is Cat 6, also known as Category 6 cable, which is a type of twisted-pair cable that is used to transmit data at high speeds over Ethernet networks. It is an improved version of Cat 5 and Cat 5e cables, with higher bandwidth and faster data transfer speeds.

Cat 6 cable has four pairs of twisted copper wires that are tightly twisted together to reduce interference from other signals and crosstalk between wires. It also has an outer jacket that provides additional protection against damage and interference. Cat 6 cable supports data transfer rates of up to 10 Gbps at distances of up to 55 meters (180 feet) and up to 1 Gbps at distances of up to 100 meters (328 feet). It is typically used in applications such as data centers, server rooms, and high-speed Ethernet networks.

Fiber Optics: Fiber optic cable is considered superior to other types of cables because of its higher bandwidth, immunity to electromagnetic interference, security, durability, and future-proofing capabilities. Generally, fiber optic cable is used for long connections from the MDF to an IDF, building to building or when an extreme amount of bandwidth is needed. We are using fiber optics more and more as the equipment to interconnect equipment is more affordable than ever.
